History:  

Fundación Formemos is a non-profit entity that began its work in January of 1992 which, as a result of Father Ernesto Andrés Sardi de Lima’s effort, brought 35 youth from the Department of Caquetá to the city of Bogotá.
  • In 1993, the Educational Center in Tena (a municipality of the Department of Cudinamarca) was opened as an informal educational program with the 35 children from Bogotá and 18 others from surrounding rural areas.
  • In the beginning of 1997, Fundación Formemos began its formal basic education program (between first and ninth grades) with an emphasis in agricultural and agro-industrial disciplines.
  • In 2005, Fundación Formemos began to incorporate pre-kindergarten and kindergarten children into its educational program in addition to a technical agricultural and agro-industrial instruction at the tenth and eleventh grade levels.

Mission:

Fundación Formemos provides impoverished and displaced boys, girls, and adolescents from the Colombian countryside with an integrative and preventative education in order to effectively position them in a productive agricultural sector within their communities.

Vision:

To offer children the possibility of improving their quality of life, that of their families, and to be leaders within their respective communities.

Objective:

To implement an integrative training curriculum that positions students into a productive agricultural sector with the hope to avoid rural desertion and migration to major cities.

Organizational Philosophy:

Our Students:

Our institution benefits impoverished and displaced boys, girls, and adolescents from the Colombian countryside of varied ages:

  • Between 6-12 years the student enrolls in the institution and begins their introductory agro-industrial workshops
  • Between 13-16 years the student finds themselves in the training stage of agro-industrial project design..
  • Between 16 years and older the student should be self-sufficient in both agricultural and ago-industrial disciplines.

Social Problems of Our Students:

  • Lack of academic opportunities.
  • Familial difficulties which displace basic human needs (proper healthcare, nutrition, shelter, and clothing)
  • Breakdown of the family unit.
  • MPhysical as well as psychological abuse
  • Societal violence and drug trafficking
  • Geographical displacement
  • Illiterate parents
  • Large family sizes
